When people are planning time away, one of the big decisions is whether to book a cattery or arrange a cat sitter in Bath. Many cat owners prefer a cat sitter because it means their pet can stay in the comfort of their own home, surrounded by familiar sights, smells, and routines. Cats are creatures of habit, and avoiding the stress of travel and a strange environment helps them feel safe and secure.
That’s why routine is so important when it comes to cat care. Cats thrive on knowing what to expect, and disruptions to their daily rhythm can leave them unsettled or stressed. As part of my cat sitting services in Bath, one of my top priorities is to keep each cat’s daily routine as close as possible to what they’re used to.
I always aim to visit at the same time each day, ideally around the times they’re normally fed at home. By staying consistent, I help create a sense of comfort and familiarity, even while their owners are away.
Creating rituals during visits
Over time, I’ve developed my own little rituals with my cat clients. Every cat is unique, but many share the same priorities:
🐾 Feeding first – For most cats, food is the main concern when I arrive. I’ll serve their meal straight away so they know their needs are met.
🐾 Sitting patiently – While they eat, I stay nearby. If I wander off and start tidying or doing chores, some cats become worried that I might leave. By sitting and waiting calmly, I reassure them that I’m staying put. Another important reason for this is that I like to make sure they’re actually eating their food. Eating well is a top priority, so I don’t want to put them off by distracting them.
🐾 Care after mealtime – Once they’ve finished eating, I’ll move on to cleaning litter trays, refreshing water, and tidying up. But I never want cats to feel ignored while I’m doing these tasks. I’ll often chat to them as I go, and many like to watch or follow me around. This way, they know I’m still present and engaged with them, even if my hands are busy.
🐾 Play and affection – After the essentials, we always make time for enrichment. Whether it’s a gentle brushing session or some interactive play, cats begin to associate my visits with this positive, reliable routine.
Why it matters
Once a cat recognises the pattern of my visits, they start to really look forward to it. They know what to expect and when to expect it, which builds trust and reduces stress.
Routine is more than just about feeding on time — it’s about creating a sense of security and familiarity. When cats feel safe, they can relax, show affection, and enjoy themselves, even while their owners are away.
That’s why I believe routines matter just as much for cat sitters as they do for the cats themselves. As a professional cat sitter in Bath, my role is to fit seamlessly into their daily life so they feel at home, even when their humans are travelling.
